EXTERIOR PLASTERING
The application and repair of foundation plaster requires skill and expertise. WHAT IS PLASTERING AND WHY DO I NEED IT?
Foundation plaster is a coating applied to the exposed portion of the foundation. While it serves to cover formwork lines and imperfections, its main purpose is to form a protective barrier against the weather.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PLASTER?
You have the choice between two types of plaster: cement plaster or acrylic plaster. Each has advantages, depending on its characteristics. The team at MF Maçonnerie Inc. can work with either one, depending on which you prefer.
Cement Plaster
Cement plaster is a mixture of Portland cement, hydrated type S lime, and sand. Applied by trowel, it adheres well and is economical. Occasionally, there may be slight differences in colour, depending on the amount of sunshine during application. Ground vibrations can, over time, cause microcracks that are normal and should not alarm you as long as they remain small. Cement plaster is gray and smooth in appearance.

Acrylic Coating
Acrylic plaster first requires the installation of a polymer base with a fiberglass membrane before finishing with the 100% acrylic coating applied by trowel. It is textured, quality and durable. This is ideal if you are in a place where the ground shifts too much and where cement plaster has already proved ineffective. It is more expensive, but more advantageous in the long run. In addition, you have the choice of 96 colours, so you can match the foundation with your home.
After
REPAIR PLASTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
If you have cracks in the foundation or, worse, parts that are crumbling and falling off, don’t wait – call us right away! We will fix it by adapting the process to the situation (installing a membrane or performing cement repair) and then resurface with a coat of plaster to ensure uniformity.
NEVER PAINT YOUR PLASTER!
If you paint your plaster it will cost more to repair, since we will have to remove the paint using a sander (because the new cement will not adhere to a painted surface), which will require more time. In addition, paint retains moisture and accelerates plaster deterioration.
